Louise Dear Pops Up Shop In Brighton Square

Internationally renowned artist, Louise Dear has opened an exhibition in Brighton Square, right opposite Donatello.

The exhibition: Louise Dear and the Elephant in the Room gives art lovers a rare chance to observe a top class artist at work on a commission piece, right here in the heart of Brighton’s Lanes.

The exhibition features several of Dear’s paintings, but the real star of the show is Tinkle, a life-sized sculpture of a baby elephant originally created by Louise in 2010.  Tinkle was bought at a subsequent auction and moved to a new location – the customer’s garden in the centre of London!  Unsurprisingly, after four years out in the cold, Tinkle needs a little bit of TLC, so Louise has agreed to refurbish the sculpture in public, and has chosen to do so in the cultural hub that is Brighton Square.  Louise Dear and the Elephant in the Room is open until August 3rd and the artist is keen to raise awareness of Elephant Family – a charity working on the conservation of the endangered Asian elephant and its habitat.

Of course, painting a life-size elephant all day is going to give you an appetite – which is perhaps why Louise chose to bring her after-show bash to Donatello for delicious, authentic, Italian food and our famous, bustling atmosphere.

If you’re heading out to The Lanes to see Louise’s exhibition, why not bring your party to Donatello afterwards?  Our large, 350+ seat restaurant can accommodate all groups, large or small – we even have seating outside when the weather permits!  Our 2/3-course specials offer superb value starting at just £7.95 per person.  Our menu features wholewheat and gluten-free dishes as well as a huge choice of vegetarian options.

Reservations are not always necessary, but can be made HERE or by calling the restaurant directly on (01273) 775477.
